This is a focused 35-page pdf you can read in an afternoon and use the next morning! It’s the conversation I wrote for my earlier self about making music tell a story.
A simple way to think like a filmmaker so every musical choice serves what the moment is actually about.
Practical ways to start when inspiration is quiet so the music actually begins.
Plain-English tools to develop a small idea into something that holds together across a project.
Examples of how to give a world its sound, a person their voice, and a scene its feeling without leaning on clichés.
I'm Robert- a composer and educator.
I help composers move past writer's block, master thematic
intentionality, & write music with deep narrative purpose.
Music gigs started to feel uninspired. When ideas didn’t comes, I convinced myself I needed:
A new sample library for the sound I wasn’t getting
A more comprehensive template so I’d be ready for any project
Another round of mix and balance tweaks
But nothing really made me feel connected to the music I was writing. So I started finding excuses to procrastinate and avoid composing all together.
I finished more, second-guessed less, and I rediscovered the fun of musical storytelling. My music finally started sounding like me again!
