🎻 Before You Buy Another Sample Library…

Before you get caught up in the next big sample library sale, here's how you can prep yourself AHEAD of time!

Robert Rodriguez ·

I want to tell you about one of the dumbest library purchases I ever made.

A few years ago, there was this Black Friday deal where if you spent over $300, you’d get an exclusive bonus library for free.

You couldn’t buy it separately—it was only available through this deal.

And that got me.

I remember justifying every single purchase.

  • “Okay… I wasn’t planning to buy this, but… I’ll probably use it eventually, right?”

  • “I mean, it’s on sale, so technically I’m saving money.”

  • “What if that free library turns out to be great and I miss my chance to get it?!”

And just like that, I hit checkout.

Fast forward to today—I don’t use that bonus library.

And those libraries I bought just to qualify? I barely touch them!

Honestly, I wish I had just spent that money on one thing I actually needed instead of buying random libraries just because they were “on sale.”

And the worst part is that I should have known better.

I talk to composers all the time who do the same thing. They buy a huge orchestral bundle, thinking it’s going to be the one solution that does everything—only to realize it’s missing key articulations, doesn’t blend well with their other libraries, or just doesn’t sound how they imagined.

But in the moment, it’s so easy to justify it!

Does this sound familiar?

  • 💭 “I’ll use it eventually.”

  • 💭 “It’s an investment in my career.”

  • 💭 “I don’t want to regret missing out.”

And that’s exactly how we end up spending money we don’t need to spend.

So before you get caught up in the next big sale, I want you to prep yourself AHEAD of time! And that’s what my latest video is all about!

In this video, I break down:

  • The psychology behind we keep buying new sample libraries (even when we don’t need them).

  • A better way to audit your setup and prioritize what actually matters.

  • The marketing traps that make us spend more than we should.

  • How to get more out of what you already own instead of constantly chasing the next big thing.
