🤔 Do NOT get Albion Colossus...Unless

Spitfire Audio's Albion Colossus is all about giving you access to modern, epic, Hollywood blockbuster sounds!

Big news! Colossal news actually!

Spitfire Audio has just released their latest library: Albion Colossus! (You can check out my initial thoughts here)

This is their first Albion since the release of Albion Solstice back in 2021 and it's really... something. After getting a chance to play through Colossus, I'm definitely blown away by the amount of pure power and punch packed into this one library. Plus Albions typically are known for their grand scale. They find a theme and go all out!

Colossus is all about giving you access to modern, epic, hollywood blockbuster sounds! It's this all-in-one toolkit built on Scale, Depth, and Hype and the way Spitfire incorporates these 3 features into this library is outstanding!

Here's the thing- I actually don't think you should buy Albion Colossus...unless you are specifically in the market for an epic, apocalyptic type library.

I'm not you and I don't know your composing situation but I can encourage you to keep these things in mind if you do end up going after Colossus:

Think about the financial investment you're taking on:

  • Right now it's on sale at $349 but the base price is at a relatively steep $449

  • One benefit to owning an already existing Albion is that previous customers get an additional discount bringing the cost down to $289!

Refer to the Spitfire website to see when these discounts end

Think about if your current collection of samples is missing that epic and massive sound.

  • Do you already have a lot of similar libraries?

  • Is there a key factor from Colossus that makes it worth the purchase for you?

Think about if the interface is right for your workflow.

  • In the video, I discuss my thoughts on the Colossus interface.

  • It'll be important to note that this is the first Albion library that does NOT use Kontakt.

If you can check these boxes and decide that yes, Colossus is perfect for you, then I absolutely want you to have access to the tools that you're in need of! Spitfire is known for quality libraries that fits everyones budget- from FREE to $29 all the way to $449 and beyond!

But they're also known for their marketing tactics:

  • "A new era in blockbuster scoring"

  • "A new dawn in epic scoring"

  • "Our biggest one yet"

For me, it's always so hard looking away from the new shiny toy but if you can structure your decisions based on need vs want, you'll at least be creating clear goals for the sound that you're looking for in your music and invest in tools that will actually benefit your writing!

Albion Colossus is an incredibly fun and bold addition to the Albion collection! If you want to see more of it in action as well as my first impressions, then check out my walkthrough video:
