Spitfire Audio just announced a new trailer scoring competition!
If you havenât seen it yet, hereâs the link.
Basically, composers can rescore the Albion Colossus trailer for the chance to win Spitfireâs Everything Bundle.
Now, I have no affiliation with this, but I know a lot of composers are probably going to be interested so I thought Iâd share my thoughts.
Over the past few years, Spitfire has run a few similar contests, and I actually made a video breaking down whether these competitions are actually worth your time. (Back when they ran the Bridgerton contest!)
The short answer? Yesâbut not because of the Everything Bundle prize.
I think these competitions are definitely worth doing becauseâŚ
đŹ Itâs real scoring practice. Writing to picture, following a brief, making creative decisions under a deadlineâitâs all part of the job. Competitions like this give you a chance to build up those muscles.
đ It helps you figure out your process. If youâre new to scoring, this is a great way to experiment with your workflow. If youâre more experienced, it can be another finished cue for your portfolio.
đââď¸ Youâll walk away having learned something. Even if itâs just one small thingâŚhow to structure a trailer cue, how to shape dynamics better, how to get out of your own wayâŚitâs still progress!
đ Winning is not the goal. If you go into this with a âwin or nothingâ mindset, youâre missing the real value. Just focus on writing music youâre proud of. Thatâs the part that actually moves your career forward!
I know itâs easy to overthink competitions like this, or that this is your make or break moment, but at the end of the day, itâs just another opportunity to write music. And thatâs always a good thing!
If you decide to enter, feel free to share your work in my free Discord communityâIâd love to hear what you come up with. đ
