Over the past week, Threads, Instagram's newest app, has experienced a massive wave of activity! It seems like a significant algorithm update has turned the platform into a hotspot for musicians, composers, artists, and creatives alike. The level of engagement I've seen has been absolutely incredible!
When Threads first launched a few months back, I shared this video exploring its potential as a unique hub for genuine interactions and musical showcases. While there was initial excitement, many expected interest to fade out. Here's the thing... Threads development has followed a "slow" yet steady growth path! And now it's thriving for musicians, especially in the areas I highlighted in the video- only after a few months!
Now, let's compare that with Twitter (X 🙄), where the experience has frankly dipped. Engaging with fellow musicians is becoming increasingly more difficult, sharing work has gotten tougher with the removal of link titles, and the feed is filled with unsolicited opinions and negativity from people I would never normally engage with!
What makes Threads a breath of fresh air is its level of positivity and authenticity. The focus is on sharing your passion, exchanging ideas, and building a supportive community, free from the typical social media pressure. This past week, I've seen an evolution where your creations genuinely reach other artists, leading to meaningful collaborations and connections.
Yes, Threads still has some growing to do. There are features we'd all love to see integrated. But considering it's only been around for less than 4 months, we now have the introduction of search, follower feeds, web access, and free edit buttons, (with trending topics, polls, and gifs coming soon!)
While Threads might not offer everything you're already used to on platforms like Twitter, it's carving out its own unique space and definitely heading in the right direction!
So, to all the composers, musicians, and everyone in between: if you're looking for a fresh, authentic platform great for musicians and creators, I highly recommend jumping on the Threads bandwagon. You can connect with me on Threads here!
