Not too long ago, I hit 3K subscribers on YouTube and it felt incredible. It was a reminder of why I started up my YouTube channel to begin with!
But it also made me realize... I've been playing it safe. Let me explain! 👇
2023 was such a massive year for me in terms of connecting with sample developers; from smaller, indie devs to the behemoths in the industry like:
Spitfire
Cinesamples
EastWest
etc.
Those connections came about because I'd made videos on the libraries I'd already been using in my own music. As time went on, I'd get more and more developers reaching out to me which was like a dream come true!
But it got to a point where I was doing nothing but sample library reviews and walkthroughs. Don't get me wrong, I've gotten the chance to discover some incredible libraries over the years and I'll absolutely keep supporting my favorite developers! However, I just know that I can offer more than just reviews!
After working closely with fellow YouTubers/musicians like Zach Heyde and PLV Music along with tutoring at ThinkSpace Education, I realized that at my core, I'm an educator! I love sharing what I know through mediums like YouTube, live chats, and even this newsletter!
And one realization led to another...even though I knew I could make whatever content I wanted to share, I'd find myself retreating back to walkthroughs because that's where I felt comfortable.
I was scared that people subscribed only for reviews. It was hard to put my true passion out there, to fight that nagging imposter syndrome that said they wouldn't care about the rest!
The thing is, even if that were the case, 3K subscribers is a big milestone for me and I want to be sure I'm sharing content that is a snapshot of who I am. That's why I pour my heart into this 'Composer Odyssey' newsletter every week – I want to engage with a community of composers who not only want to level up their samples but their mockups, and their musical skills, their technical skills, and their overall mindset as well!

The Composer Odyssey Newsletter is where I feel like I can teach and pass on some insights in a way that's true to who I am as an educator! So my goal is to slightly shift my YouTube channel to be more of a reflection of that as opposed to being just a gear guide!
I want to help composers find their footing, understand not only their strengths but how to leverage them in their career, and offer those "ah-ha!" moments that keep us feeling inspired!
Your support, whether you've been here a while or just joined, means the world! I'm excited to take my channel even deeper. And of course, I also want to make sure I'm creating content that resonates with YOU!
So if you've gotten value from any of my content, (YouTube, Newsletter, Blog, Book Recommendations, etc.) would you mind filling out a quick testimonial? This is how I can find what's truly resonating and hopefully help more composers along the way!
