Wrapping up the final webinar of the 8-week Orchestral Bootcamp at ThinkSpace Education, I got to reflect on an incredible journey that transformed me from a student to a tutor!
For those of you who don't know, back in 2020 I actually got my Master's degree in Orchestration for Film, TV, & Games through the ThinkSpace program and loved every aspect of my experience!
π€© Truly- it was so rewarding as a composer, student, and musician!
So when they reached out asking if I'd be willing to tutor for this new bootcamp they were working on, my heart jumped for joy, my mind started racing...and my fear was front and center, leaving all my doubts and insecurities exposed!
The question I kept asking myself was...why me?!
βWho was I to tutor students from around the world?
π° What if I embarrass myself?
π³ Am I qualified enough to share what I know?
That's when I had to step back and reflect on why ThinkSpace actually did ask me in the first place. I realized that since graduating as a student...
π€Ώ I dove head first into the world of sampled orchestration.
π» I've connected with countless sample developers and composers in the industry.
π± I've slowly and steadily grown a social presence online.
π₯ I developed a love for educating through YouTube
π¨βπ I actually have the knowledge from my degree!
I had to stop doubting myself and giving into imposter syndrome because TSE asked me for a reason!
But more importantly, I realized that though I had my own doubts, none of this was actually about me in the first place!
My number 1 priority became:
"How can I use what I know to help someone else jumping into the world of composition?"
Throughout the bootcamp, I met so many students out there ready and willing to learn from incredible educators like Guy Michelmore, Chuck Fernandez, Marie-Anne Fischer, (and apparently myself! π)
Seeing the growth and enthusiasm in the students each week, I realized that my insights weren't just being heard but truly making a difference.
This entire experience just solidified my love for music education, passing on knowledge and value to others while I keep educating myself in turn.
The reason why I'm sharing this with you is of course to share my excitement about the program... but also to show you that imposter syndrome will exist on every level.
But it's up to you to reflect on your WHY. Reflect on your actual accomplishments. And remember that your end goal should always be about offering value to others.
πΆ Value with your music
π Value through education
π£οΈ Value in your communication
As we step into a new year, I encourage you to embrace your passions, push past doubts, and share your unique value with the world of music!
I'm also incredibly grateful for my experience working with the ThinkSpace Education team and all of the students involved! Your comments and messages have meant the world to me! π
